MY EXPERIENCE IN THE INDUSTRY...

International Business Experience
Developing my daughter's nail products in China helped me strengthen a range of practical business skills through real industry experience. I developed negotiation and bargaining skills when discussing prices, minimum order quantities, and product details with manufacturers and suppliers. I also improved my mathematical skills by managing budgets, calculating product costs, comparing pricing, and understanding profit margins. In addition, I built decision-making, research, networking, and problem-solving skills while sourcing products and selecting the best manufacturing options for my brand. This experience gave me valuable insight into international business and product development within a professional environment.

Packaging Design & Branding Experience.
Finding the right packaging for the nail products in China helped me develop several creative and business-related skills. I used attention to detail when comparing packaging quality, colours, materials, and designs to ensure they matched my brand identity. I also strengthened my decision-making and analytical skills by comparing prices, assessing supplier options, and choosing packaging that was both visually appealing and cost-effective. Throughout the process, I developed creativity, market awareness, and branding skills by researching current trends and understanding what would attract my target audience.
EXAMPLES OF HOW I DEVELOPED MY SKILLS...
I created a WhatsApp group chat for my team to delegate tasks, share updates, and ensure we were making consistent progress towards the project deadline. This experience helped me develop my leadership and organisational skills, as I learned how to recognise my peers’ strengths and weaknesses and assign responsibilities accordingly to improve teamwork and productivity.
I regularly watched business-related videos on YouTube. In particular, I watched content from TED who discusses confidence, public speaking, and effective communication in professional environments. These videos showed me the importance of body language, tone of voice, active listening, and presenting ideas clearly. Applying these techniques during presentations and class discussions helped me become more confident when communicating with others.
Working as a personal assistant in healthcare has allowed me to strengthen my organisational skills through managing important day-to-day responsibilities. I often help ensure staff shifts are covered, medical appointments are attended, weekly food shopping is completed, and prescriptions are ordered on time for the service user. Managing these responsibilities requires strong planning, time management, and attention to detail to ensure everything runs efficiently.
